Families matter to God. However, strong families don’t just happen - They are the result of deliberate intention, determination and practice. Burry’s Bible Conference invites you, your church, your ministry, and your ministry volunteers to a weekend devoted to Biblical ‘FAMILY MATTERS’ with special guest, Dr. Duffy Robbins of Grove City College. On March 25-26, at Burry’s Church, Duffy will take us through God’s Word to learn about: Building Families That Build Healthy People, Intentional Parenting - The Basics, and Helping Young People Grow Spiritually. This is not just a conference on parenting or working with the next generation, but a weekend designed to inform us about the ever changing culture we live in and young people grow up in…and what the Bible has to say about helping our next generation in such a culture.

We believe that this subject is so important and relevant today that we wish to invite everyone to join us for this conference for free. We just ask that you please register online to gain entry. Registration & Conference details below.

Family Matters.

God designed families. He based all systems of life and society around them. The family carries the essence of friendship, strength, service and care. Unfortunately, we live in a broken world where broken families exist too. From the very start of the human race the family has been under attack. Today, our young people are growing up in a culture that seems to be systematically disassembling the family. In addition to our biological families God has given us the church family where we learn to love one another, pray for one another, help one another, and share one another’s burdens.

Duffy Robbins.

Dr. Robbins is a professor of Christian Ministry at Grove City College, Pa., and a respected youth and family ministry veteran with more than 40 years of experience in the field.

He speaks around the world to teens, families, churches, and those who work with young people. Robbins also serves as a teaching pastor at Faithbridge Church in Spring, Texas, and a faculty member in the Doctor of Ministry program at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, where he co-leads the doctoral cohorts for Ministry to Emerging Generations.

A long-time staff writer for Youth Specialties, Robbins has authored numerous books, including Ministry of Nurture, This Way to Youth Ministry: An Introduction to the Adventure, Speaking to Teenagers (with Doug Fields), Youth Ministry Nuts and Bolts, Enjoy the Silence (with his wife Maggie Robbins), and Building a Youth Ministry That Builds Disciples.

Duffy will be speaking on ‘Family Matters’ at Burry’s Bible Conference on both Saturday, March 25 and Sunday, March 26.

Weekend Seminars.

Building Families That Build Healthy People

One of the most common problems today’s family faces is the business and pace of daily living: work responsibilities, school, sports, church, family relationships, we all know the drill. There’s not much time to think about direction when we’re all traveling at the speed of life. Whether we are parents or not yet married ourselves, church workers or youth workers, grandparents, or Christ followers looking to help families succeed: This seminar will give us an opportunity to pull over and look at the map, to regain a sense of perspective and direction. What ought to be a family’s goals? And, in the midst of the busy-ness and the dizziness of this next generation’s years can we settle on some basic priorities as a family? We’ll go back to Scripture to see what kinds of priorities God sets for his people:

  • What does it mean to help our children and young people “become like Jesus”?

  • In what sense are we to help today’s young people be “no longer children” as they move into adolescence?

  • What does real life discipleship look like as we interact with th next generation?

  • Why is it so important that we nurture in today’s young people a “first-hand faith”?

Intentional Parenting - The Basics

A big part of the parenting task is simply doing it with intention - with a sense of purpose, proactive parenting as opposed to reactive parenting. When parents operate on the basis of core values and set intentions, the parenting task becomes more about guidance and less about hand to hand combat.

Whether we are parents or not yet married ourselves, church workers or youth workers, grandparents, or Christ followers looking to help families succeed - In this session, we’ll look at some of those core values and set intentions that form and inform tasks as parents of the next generation:

  • The Incarnation Principle, and how it reminds us that good parenting is like teaching your child to drive a car

  • The Baby Step Principle, and why wise parents learn to celebrate small victories

  • The Emperor Penguin Principle, and what it says about the importance of patience

  • The Morning Sickness Principle, and why we go through labor twice with each child

Helping The Next Generation to Grow Spiritually

At the end of the day, it isn't the church, the kids ministry - youth group - or family ministry, Oprah, Beyonce or Vegetales who is responsible for nurturing the spiritual lives of our children and the next generation. That responsibility their parents AND the previous generation of Christ followers; and what a precious, weighty, sometimes exhilarating and sometimes difficult calling it is!

But, what does real life discipleship look like in the life of a teenager? Is there really any such thing as a teenage disciple? This seminar offers parents encouragement and practical guidance as we undertake this sacred task.
